Handbook of Industrial and Hazardous Wastes Treatment, Volume II (Advances in Industrial and Hazardous Wastes Treatment)
- Publisher: CRC Press
- Number Of Pages: 1376
- Publication Date: 2009-11-04
- ISBN-10 / ASIN: 1420072196
- ISBN-13 / EAN: 9781420072198
Most industrial and hazardous waste management resources cover the major industries and provide conventional in-plant pollution control strategies. Until now however, no book or series of books has provided coverage that includes the latest developments in innovative and alternative environmental technology, design criteria, managerial decision methodologies, and regional and global environmental conservation. The new Handbook of Advanced Industrial and Hazardous Wastes Treatment—together with its predecessor, the Handbook of Industrial and Hazardous Wastes Treatment—forms a complete and up-to-date resource that contains all the necessary technical information on hazardous industrial waste treatment.
Providing in-depth coverage of treatment and management technologies in wide-ranging industries that readers simply won’t find anywhere else, this cutting-edge text addresses wastes in areas including metal finishing, food processing, milk production, coal mines, foundries, and chemical manufacturing. It covers basic and advanced principles and applications in contemporary hazardous and industrial waste treatment and explores new methods of clean production, waste minimization, and the treatment of landfills and underground storage tanks. Coverage includes the latest developments in legislation, regulations, soil remediation, brownfield site restoration, bioremediation, enzymatic processes, and much more.
Complete with numerous figures, tables, examples, and case histories, this book provides technical and economical information on how to develop a total environmental control program that can benefit both industry and local municipalities. This book combined with the Handbook of Industrial and Hazardous Wastes Treatment forms a resource that is comprehensive in scope and directly applicable to waste management problems in a broad range of industries.

Innovation and the Pharmaceutical Industry: Critical Reflections on the Virtues of Profit (Conflicts and Trends: Studies in Values and Policies)
- Publisher: M & Scrivener Press
- Number Of Pages: 250
- Publication Date: 2008-04-30
- ISBN-10 / ASIN: 0980209447
- ISBN-13 / EAN: 9780980209440
iInnovation and the Pharmaceutical Industry: Critical Reflections on the Virtues of Profit examines the central role of profit in the development of pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and health care generally. Recent efforts to understand this role have often underestimated and even dismissed its importance, arguing for its replacement by other means and mechanisms. However, as the essays in this volume attest, it would be impossible to account adequately for the range of pharmaceuticals and medical devices that have become part of everyday medicine without recognizing that the depth and scope of innovations are tied not simply to altruism, a concern for the common good, or the pursuit of knowledge for its own sake, but crucially to the pursuit of private good and of individual profit.
Balancing a concern for theory and practice, the analyses and evaluations provided in these essays touch directly on many of the most heated and important debates in pharmaceutical ethics, such as profit margins, corporate social responsibility, drug advertising, litigation, patents, and parallel trade. Reflecting critically on the problems and prospects of medical innovation, they invite a rethinking of the foundations of the bioethics and business ethics of the pharmaceutical and medical device industries by focusing on the long-term impact of policy decisions for human health and well-being.

- ISBN-10 / ASIN: 3527306846
- ISBN-13 / EAN: 9783527306848
This is the long awaited sequel to Classics in Total Synthesis, a book that has made its mark as a superb tool for educating students and practitioners alike in the art of organic synthesis since its introduction in 1996. In this highly welcomed new volume, K. C. Nicolaou and Scott A. Snyder discuss in detail the most impressive accomplishments in natural product total synthesis during the 1990s and the first years of the 21st century. While all of the features that made the first volume of Classics so popular and unique as a teaching tool have been maintained, in this new treatise the authors seek to present the latest techniques and advances in organic synthesis as they beautifully describe the works of some of the most renowned synthetic organic chemists of our time.
- Develops domino reactions, cascade sequences, biomimetic strategies, and asymmetric catalysis are systematically through the chosen synthesis
- Discusses the latest synthetic technologies in terms of mechanism and scope
- Includes new reactions, such as olefin metathesis, in mini-review style
- Abundant references for further reading
- CD with useful teaching material for lecturers is included with hardback version (ISBN 3-527-30685-4)

Methods of Seawater Analysis
By Klaus Grasshoff, Klaus Kremling, Manfred Ehrhardt
- Publisher: Wiley-VCH
- Number Of Pages: 632
- Publication Date: 1999-06-09
- ISBN-10 / ASIN: 3527295895
- ISBN-13 / EAN: 9783527295890
Since the book first appeared in 1976, Methods of Seawater Analysis has found widespread acceptance as a reliable and detailed source of information. Its second extended and revised edition published in 1983 reflected the rapid pace of instrumental and methodological evolution in the preceding years. The development has lost nothing of its momentum, and many methods and procedures still suffering their teething troubles then have now matured into dependable tools for the analyst. This is especially evident for trace and ultra-trace analyses of organic and inorganic seawater constituents which have diversified considerably and now require more space for their description than before. Methods to determine volatile halocarbons, dimethyl sulphide, photosynthetic pigments and natural radioactive tracers have been added as well as applications of X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy and various electrochemical methods for trace metal analysis. Another method not previously described deals with the determination of the partial pressure of carbon dioxide as part of standardised procedures to describe the marine CO2 system.
